Just like us the stand-up comedian and a stage performer-turned-film actor Vir Das was also dazed when he was offered a dark character in REVOLVER RANI. Vir Das shares, ''I was flattered and asked Kabir, the director, that are you sure you want me for this role? However, all he replied was that he needs a good actor for this role.''
''Kabir and I also discussed about this role, which is very manipulative, confident, sexual, womaniser, etc.. but at the same time horrible things happen to him. When I read the script I told him instantly there is a very typical filmy way to enact this role but I don't want to do it that way because I feel I would be very bad at doing it. So, he said that's the reason I have offered this role to you because I don't want it to be done anyhow,'' Vir Das adds.
Vir says that his character in REVOLVER RANI is very fake and he had to overact a bit. ''I am playing someone, who is always acting and never real. He is so fake that he doesn't mean anything that he says, so that leaves a room for lot of overacting also. At a certain level, I tried to overact also but without doing too much. It's a very fine line and a tough performance. It's a complete dichotomy to play a filmy person in a very non-filmy way, which is a complicated thing,'' he says
Since REVOLVER RANI is not his type of genre, ask Vir how was it working in a set-up like this, being paired with Kangana Ranaut and he expresses, ''It's a very gritty, earthy Tigmanshu Dhulia university of Cinema! So you would never expect me in a film like this ever. In fact, I don't think anybody would expect to see me opposite Kangana Ranaut. No one would ever put us together. It's totally chalk and cheese! It was tough because I didn't want to mess it up as Kangana is 25 films-old, Piyush Mishra is 40 films-old and I have just five films to my credit. To get it right was very important for me. The makers said that don't define the role just play it straight. My strength is comedy but this is the first time where I am placed in an unfunny film. And I am not supposed to be funny just be honest. But overall it was a very interesting journey.''
Directed by Sai Kabir and supported by filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia, the film stars Bollywood's current QUEEN Kangana Ranaut and set to release on April 25, 2014.
