Rajeev Khandelwal: After TABLE NO. 21, I was taken more seriously

Last year Rajeev Khandelwal had delivered a surprise success in the form of TABLE NO. 21, a suspense thriller. 15 months down the line, he is now ready with another suspense thriller SAMRAT & CO. This is incidentally his third film in this genre if one counts his debut feature film AAMIR.
With last year beginning well with TABLE NO. 21, one would have expected Rajeev to be much more prolific in months to follow. However, he is arriving on the big screen after such a long break. Why?
"The good thing is that after TABLE NO. 21, I was taken a little more seriously. However, it took me so long to actually go and sign another film because whatever I was being offered, it was in the same zone. I didn't mind the same genre but then at least the concept had to surprise and excite me. Thankfully, industry in general has been very good and kind to me since the time I stepped in, so offers never dried up," says Rajeev.
While Rajshri Productions' SAMRAT & CO. turned out to be the chosen on, one does hear that the film's director Kaushik Ghatak is already writing SAMRAT & CO. 2 with Rajeev in mind.
Laughs Rajeev, "Yeah, but I have told him to first wait for the outcome and reception of SAMRAT & CO. Of course if he goes ahead and makes next in the series, I would love to be a part of the franchise."
We agree. Now if SAMRAT & CO. indeed turns out to be a good product in the offering, it could well be another franchise in the making at Bollywood.
