Ok, so you read it first here! ENTERTAINMENT, which releases this Friday, is based on a true incident. This is a tale that goes five-six years back when a Mumbai based Parsi man had named his pet dog as the sole heir for all his assets. When writers Sajid-Farhad read about it, they couldn't help but find quite some humor in the ironic situation and decided to make a movie around this.
Though they were busy with their other writing assignments, most notably GOLMAAL series and SINGHAM, it was this very subject that stayed at the back of their mind. They kept the story idea alive in their mind and started penning down ENTERTAINMENT. Of course, given their zany sense of humor, it was imperative that quite a few cinematic liberties were taken to spice up the proceedings.
However, what happened next pretty much shocked them as research revealed that this wasn't a sole instance of a pet being made the sole custodian of an entire property. They realized that even far away in London, there was story circulating around a man whose pets were treated with food from nothing less than five star hotels. Buoyed by these findings, Sajid-Farhad made up their mind to have this very subject as the base of their first film and pronto approached Akshay Kumar with the story idea. As it turned out, the actor was more than happy to come on board for this story that boasted of an unusual set up.
Says Akshay, ''When Sajid-Farhad came to me and told me about this dog’s life and the sensitive storyline along with outrageous comedy sequences they had planned, I couldn’t wait to make this film for my son, daughter, nephews and nieces. All of them are dog crazy and when you get that kind of gut feeling, as a father as well as an actor, you just can't turn your back on a lovable family entertainer like this.''
