Suniel Shetty lovingly revered as Anna in the film fraternity turns 53; Glamsham.Com wishes the actor cum producer birthday greetings and revels why Suniel Shetty regards actor Danny Denzongpa as his mentor.
When Suniel Shetty entered Bollywood with a background in martial arts and Black Belt in Kick Boxing he was ruled out as a hero material, probably his robust and muscular build was against the so called ‘chocolate look’ of a hero. However director Deepak Anand, who was making an action movie BALWAAN found in him an ideal hero and thus began his tryst in Bollywood.
However, Suniel Shetty credits ace villain and character actor Danny Denzongpa as his mentor who helped him in building his action hero image. In an interview Suniel Shetty candidly confessed, “I shall always remain indebted to Danny sahab because during my debut film BALWAAN, he was the main villain and I had a fight scene where I had to trash him bitterly and throw him on to the ground. Being a debutant actor I was hastened. I had grown up worshiping him as a powerful actor hence I was little reluctant to do the scene.”
He added, “When Danny Sahab came to know this, he came to me and politely said, ‘Arre agar mujhe nahin udhake nahin patkega to audience thuje Balwaan kaise samjhegi?’ (If you won’t lift me and throw me on ground how will the audience acknowledge you as a real hero). I understood and did the scene. Later when I saw the movie in theatre, I was overwhelmed by the audience response, particularly in the climax scene where I pick up Danny Sahab and throw him on ground.”
