Now if at all this would have indeed happened, it could well have qualified for being the casting coup of the year. Believe it or not but the first choices of upcoming underworld-meets-sports genre flick DESI KATTEY were Shahid Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar. At the time when it was being written, producer-director Anand Kumar felt that the two actors would be just the right fit for his film which has bullets and patriotism flowing around in equal measures.

"Yes, while the characters were being developed, I could see Shahid and Farhan in there. As the script progressed, I was all the more sure that I had to reach out to them. None of the two have entered this space before and since the film by itself has a plot which is first of its kinds, I felt that bringing in actors like them in an altogether different space would do wonders to the narrative," says Anand.
For the maker of ZILLA GHAZIABAD (Sanjay Dutt, Vivek Oberoi, Arshad Warsi), it was just the right recipe to bring on yet another multi-starrer affair. However, once the final cut of the script was in place, subsequent readings with select set of friends and associates led him to a change in mind.

"Everyone was quite impressed with the written word as they felt that the story had something raw to offer due to it being set in a virgin territory. However, they opined that if stars would have stepped into the film, I would have had to work around their image. It would have been interesting but then I don't think justice would have been done to the film as a whole. If not Shahid or Farhan, I could have perhaps approached other stars as accessibility wasn't an issue, especially after ZILLA GHAZIABAD. However, I felt it would be right to rope in newcomers instead as that would make the film all the more interesting with surprises round the corner."
Well, we would like to see all the surprises that Jay Bhanushali and Akhil Kapur bring on screen now once DESI KATTEY releases all over on 12th September.
