Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan’s rise as an actor has been astounding. From being discarded as a wooden actor to winning six Filmfare Awards and a National Award; Saif Ali Khan not only tight lipped his critics but also made his parents proud. August 16 marks the actor’s birthday; Glamsham.Com wishes him birthday greetings and reveals the readers about who inspired Saif Ali Khan to be an actor?
Born in a family of nawabs and cricket enthusiasts, Saif Ali Khan’s career was almost certain in the field of cricket. His father Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi was India’s youngest and most popular captain and his paternal grandfather, Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, played cricket for England and later represented India as a captain, after independence. Thus Saif’s fate of taking cricket as a career was certain. But the question arises who inspired young Saif to pursue acting and not take up cricket?
In an interview Saif acknowledged, “It’s true that in our family, cricket runs in our blood. Even I played cricket. But once, when I was about 6 or 7 year old, I visited Filmcity where my mom (renowned actress Sharmila Tagore) was shooting. There I happened to see a tall actor with deep baritone acting opposite my mom. I was bowled over by his exceptional histrionics and I asked my mother his name. She informed his name is Amitabh Bachchan. That day itself, I took a pledge to become an actor like him when I grew up.”
Later as Saif began watching Amitabh Bachchan’s movies his admiration for the superstar grew more intense and the urge to become an actor became concrete. Then came a day when Saif got the opportunity to act opposite Amitabh Bachchan in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s movie EKLAVYA.
Recalling his reaction about working with his dream idol, Saif candidly confessed, ''I must first admit that when Vinodji offered me the role and told that it was opposite Amitabh Bachchan, I was both excited and nervous. In fact for working in the movie opposite Bachchan sahab, I had turned down many big offers of reputed filmmakers''.
