Winner of three National Awards and multiple International acclaim, Madhur Bhandarkar, is one of the few film makers of contemporary cinema who has been able to carry forward the legacy of legendary filmmakers like Bimal Roy, Guru Dutt, Raj Kapoor etc. who beautifully blended art and commercial cinema. August 26 marks the birthday of the genius filmmaker; Glamsham.Com wishes him birthday greeting and success for his forthcoming movie CALENDAR GIRLS.

Renowned as 'Film Maker of The First Decade of 21st Century', Madhur Bhandarkar is known for making movies that focus on the harsh realities of life like PAGE 3, FASHION,TRAFFIC SIGNAL, CORPORATE, HEROINE, and of course CHANDNI BAR, the movie that brought a struggling Madhur Bhandarkar to the fore thanks to its commercial success and four National Awards.

Though Madhur Bhandarkar has made such sensible movies, readers would be surprised to know that Madhur Bhandarkar is a school dropout!

In an interview Madhur Bhandarkar candidly confessed, ''Although I have studied only till class six, yet I have a passion for reading and an eye for observation. It is my talent for observation that has helped me in making movies that are close to the society.''

He added, ''In fact my first film CHANDNI BAR was a result of my keen observation of people around me.''

Recalling how the seed of CHANDNI BAR got germinated he said, ''On the first day of the release my debut film TRISHAKTI, I was completely disappointed. When I went around the theatres where the movie was released in Mumbai, I was utterly depressed by the poor response. Late in the evening I was sitting with my friend in somber mood. My friend understood my depression hence to cheer me up he took me to a nearby dance bar.''

''Since I had never been to any dance bar I was agonized to see the pity of the dancing girls. I could vividly observe their false smile and read the trauma in their eyes. I immediately rushed out of the bar. Later I read many articles about bar girls in newspapers and books and penned the story of  CHANDNI BAR!''
