One of the most awaited film of the year, Rajkumar Hirani's Aamir Khan starrer, PK, landed at the box-office terminal on schedule (19th December 2014), despite fog and vagaries of the weather in half of India.
||PK AND ACTION JACKSON
To elaborate on the flight tracker (release!), the opening conformed to our latest box-office report, that is PK was bumper at multiplexes and extraordinary at high end metro multiplexes. PK's cause was further turbocharged by business house bulk bookings. The single screens were good to above average. To sum it up roughly, PK opened to an average response of 75 percent (based on multiplex and single screens response) and improved as the day progressed.
As per early estimates PK will recalibrate many India and overseas record in the long run, but has been unable to beat the best single/first day record (40-41 crore) of Shah Rukh Khan's HAPPY NEW YEAR. Just for records PK has netted nearly 30 crore during the opening day, but this is a very rough estimate.
CHECK OUT: PK Movie Review
To analyse the above data, PK is all set to be at least a super hit, if not more, but it will not be able to achieve the all-time blockbuster success of team Hirani-Aamir's last venture, 3 IDIOTS.
Meanwhile, the last major release (prior to PK), ACTION JACKSON by the Midas touch director Prabhudheva, and starring super star Ajay Devgn, crashed badly in the second week, despite no significant opposition. Coming to the nitty gritties, after a fair 46 crore first week, ACTION JACKSON could only manage another 11 crore during the second outing. The film has thus netted 57 crore (to be validated) in two weeks from India and ends up as a box-office failure, more so due to its poor overseas run. More than the film's collections, the high 100 crore (all inclusive) cost turns out to be the biggest villain for ACTION JACKSON's failure.
