Jackie Shroff, the debonair and dashing looking actor who ruled the 80's and 90's turns 54. Glamsham.Com wishes him birthday greetings and unravels how Jackie Shroff went on to win his first Filmfare Best Actor Award.
Jackie Shroff, who made his debut with a cameo role in Dev Anand's SWAMI DADA, was rediscovered by Subhash Ghai in his movie HERO. Though the success of HERO opened doors of stardom for Jackie but his histrionics as an actor were displayed first in Vidhu Vinod Chopra's cult classic PARINDA (1988). But readers would be surprised to know that initially Jackie had declined the role as he had never heard Chopra's name, who by then was an anonymous director with just two 'art movies' like KHAMOSH and SAZAYE MAUT to his credit.
While Jackie was unfamiliar about Chopra, the movie's other actor Anil Kapoor, knew him and had high regards for his talent. Hence when Chopra failed to cajole Jackie for the movie, Anil Kapoor persuaded Jackie to do the movie and what followed was an unforgettable 'acting experience' for Jackie Shroff.
Under the hawk eye of Chopra, Jackie learnt the art of expression, passion and compassion. Anil Kapoor in an interview said, ''Vinod Chopra is a demanding director, until he gets the right expression and emotions he doesn't give up. As a result Jackie had to really work very hard. Many times I and Vinod used to enact out an entire scene to help Jackie understand the nuance of his character. Thus when Jackie Shroff won his first Filmfare Best Actor Award for the movie out beating Aamir Khan in RAAKH, Salman Khan in MAINE PYAAR KIYA, Rishi Kapoor in CHANDNI and myself in EESHWAR in the Best Actor category, I was both happy and anguished. Happy because it was my acting tips that helped Jackie win the award and anguished because I lost the award for one of my best performance.''
