Born Jagmohan Singh on February 8, 1941 at Sri Ganganagar, Bikaner, in Rajasthan, Jagjit Singh graduated to etching his name in the annals of music history as the entity who empowered the genre of 'Ghazals'.

The late Jagjit Singh, often fondly referred to as the 'Ghazal King,' carved his own niche in this genre and his efforts culminated with official recognition in the form of the coveted Padma Bhushan.

Together with his spouse Chitra Singh, the duo had created waves on the music scene with their tuneful expertise in numerous albums too.

The late vocalist who was a composer, music director, activist and director, whose inimitable score in films such as ARTH and SAATH SAATH are a hot favourite among music-aficionados, till date.

His double album of 'ghazals' (HMV) with Lata Mangeshkar, the 'Nightingale Of India', holds the record as being one of the highest-selling combination albums of all time.
