Madhuri Dixit: I am the hero and Juhi Chawla is the villain

She is getting into all the action and enjoying it to the core. Madhuri Dixit, for whom GULAAB GANG could well be yet another milestone in a glorious career, is happy that there are added opportunities for women in general, and not just the actresses, in the film industry.
"It is good to see when women are writing and directing so many films. Otherwise there was a time when there were just a handful of such professionals who could be counted on fingertips. It is a big change and also a wonderful time for women as they are also bringing with them newer sensibilities," says Madhuri, who has been around for three decades now.
From ABODH to GULAAB GANG , it is an altogether different world that the lady is exploring today.
"Thankfully, women in films are no more caricature-ish where they are either victims or avengers. Nahi toh hota aisa tha pehle ki bas shuru mein aap victim ho, then you take revenge and then there is end of film. This isn't the case today. You are no more just an eye candy or a victim," says Madhuri.
This is the reason why she is happy that with GULAAB GANG, she is exploring new horizons as it is a character being explored and not the fact that she happens to be of a female gender.
"That's exactly the difference in sensibilities I can see in filmmakers of current generation. Soumik was clear that GULAAB GANG was about two powerful characters taking on each other. I am the hero, Juhi is the villain. Period. It is just incidental that both happen to be women," she adds.
