Madhuri Dixit may be all gung-ho over GULAAB GANG, but moviemaker Kiran Rao has been superbly captivated by GULABI GANG. The documentary presented by Sohum Shah and helmed by Nishtha Jain earned high Brownie points from Aamir Khan's spouse.
In her tradition of spotlighting new and deserving talent (SHIP OF THESEUS) Kiran decided to provide a wider reach for GULABI GANG. The real-life documentary illumines the life and times of Sampat Pal, the social activist from Bundelkhand, Uttar Pradesh who worked for the emancipation of women in her state.
''I watched the documentary and was greatly inspired by it. So, I wanted to support it and that's why I have arranged this special screening,'' said Kiran Rao.
Among the celebs who zoomed in for a viewing were Aditya Roy Kapur, Gauri Shinde, Swara Bhaskar and Prasoon Joshi. Reactions, post the screening were expectedly heart-warming.
Aditya Roy Kapur opined that the documentary had arrived ''at the right time'' and it would help shed light on the plight of women in small towns of India.
Hailing it unflinchingly, Gauri Shinde, director of ENGLISH VINGLISH admitted, ''When I saw it, I was deeply moved. In fact, I am yet to get over it. I think that it's a must-see for every citizen of India.''
