Sneha Khanwalkar, indeed, would feel proud about the fact that her quest to discover new voices through her album: 'Sound Tipping' has led to the discovery of Noorah sisters who make their debut in Imtiaz Ali's HIGHWAY and through their rustic voice, they have been able to create a buzz about the film.
A.R. RAHMAN and HIGHWAY
Obviously, it is A. R. Rahman who has brought in all his skills of giving an esoteric twist to the genre of Sufi music- as he has done in 'Patakha Guddi'- the song from HIGHWAY which has led the present generation swoon and be swept off their feet. It would also be a first in the world of playback singing, that two voices have been used for a single actress! Yes, the sisters sing together, and their voices blend into each other in such a harmonious manner that one is unable to distinguish where the first one ends and the second one starts.
Nooran sisters bring alive the folk Sufiana music for which the hinterland of Punjab is famous for. Indeed, it is more than 30 years, when Reshma sang the song in HERO and walked into the hearts of fans for eternity, that Nooran sisters have arisen to carve their space. It was the performance that they rendered in the Coke Studio which caught Rehman's attention and he chose them for rendering the playback for HIGHWAY.
Nooran Sisters have already made their presence felt among the Punjabi diaspora around the world, through the rendition of folk songs, and indirectly could be the catalysis for bringing in patrons from around the world to watch HIGHWAY, as they would be soaking in the ambience of their vocal prowess.
Nooran sisters made impressive debut in the 'Nakodar Mela' in Jalandhar which is annual pilgrimage for fans of Sufiana music from around the world, and such was their impact that even a established Punjabi Sufi singer like Gurdas Mann showered notes on them throughout their performance.
Well, Nooran sister are now on the HIGWAY to success, with Rehman giving them wings, they should not look back further and continue on the autobahn of success.
One also needs to complement fans of music of the present times that are criticized for not patronizing good music. They seldom are being given a choice to do so, and when they have been provided the same through Patakha Guddi from HIGHWAY, the success of the song across all music channels indeed is pointer to the fact that they also love good music.
