Huma Qureshi: Making me dance with Madhuri, Abhishek has sabotaged my career

Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi is gung ho about her next film, DEDH ISHQIYA, alongside Madhuri Dixit, Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi, which hits the screens tomorrow. Ask Huma about her character in the film and she says, ''I play the character of Munira - a girl from a small town of Mahmudabad. She is very different from the typical small town girls. Very clear and knows what she wants from life. She is Begum Para's (Madhuri Dixit's character) shadow. Though the back story is different. But yes, Munira is a very mysterious character. You never really know what goes on in her mind.''
Huma, who debuted in Bollywood with Anurag Kashyap's GANGS OF WASSEYPUR in 2012, has appeared in as good as six films including GANGS OF WASSEYPUR, LUV SHUV TEY CHIKEN KHURANA, EK THI DAAYAN, D-DAY and DEDH ISHQIYA, in a span of just about two years. However, she doesn't have a solo heroine film to her credit. All of the above films have been ensemble cast. Does this affect her?
Reveals Huma, ''I would rather do good films than get affected about whether it is solo or multi or ensemble film. It should be a good film that's it. Recently I was just joking about it that in my first film I was working with 300 people and now I am working with just 4. So yeah I am going there. When I read DEDH ISHQIYA I knew I wanted to do it. It is a brilliant part. And of course I saw the first ISHQIYA. I loved it so I think it is flattering to be a part of this ensemble film.''
But then DEDH ISHQIYA has senior actors like Madhuri Dixit, Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi, so doesn't that make you insecure? ''I thought of DEDH ISHQIYA as an opportunity to do my best. Either I could choose to be insecure or take it as a huge compliment and do my best. I did that and just didn't think about anything else. And I had the cast supporting me. They all were very sweet.''
Interestingly, Huma would not just be sharing the screen space with Madhuri Dixit, but would also be seen shaking a leg in a thumri titled 'Hamari Atariya' in the movie. Though it is in the end that Huma joins Madhuri, wasn't it difficult matching steps with the diva? ''Well she is Madhuri Dixit. She is gorgeous. You will not believe, I was watching her and I just felt that a camera does not do justice to how good she is. She is magical. I was nervous for the Kathak portion in 'Hamari Atariya','' confesses Huma.
She continues, ''I join Madhuri towards the end. And I just thought that Abhishek Chaubey is trying to sabotage my dancing career. Even if I am the best dancer but you are making me dance with Madhuri Dixit. But thankfully Madhuri was very supportive and so were Remo (D'souza), the choreographer and Abhishek (Chaubey).''
Now that you have worked with Madhuri, how was the experience? ''Madhuri is very easy to work with. She doesn't carry the baggage of superstar or diva. It's been really great knowing her,'' concludes Huma.
