A unique feature of 2013 has been that almost all the huge hits have been criticized by the reviewers, especially those who review in English. The list includes names like YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI, GRAND MASTI, KRRISH 3, GOLIYON KI RAASLEELA RAM-LEELA, CHENNAI EXPRESS, and at the fag end of the year end DHOOM 3. The only exception to the rule has been the case of BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG, which found universal acclaim.
In case of DHOOM 3 it has been a house divided! While the Hindi press has praised it, the English language reviews have been very negative. And who better than Vijay Krishna Acharya (Victor), the director of the film, that has already netted 260 crore from India and $25m from the overseas, to solve the conundrum.
Says Victor, ''I think the critics who write in English are enamored by the US (read Hollywood). They do not understand that the sensibilities of the Indian audience are quite different. Many a times I have checked out films rated highly by these gentlemen, but failed to understand why they loved it so much. At times they shower accolades on certain aspects, which is like praising hand writing in a Physics paper!''
