He resisted coming behind the mike for BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG. However for his upcoming film SHAADI KE SIDE EFFECTS, Farhan Akhtar is getting back to singing. There are a couple of specially designed numbers planned for him and he would be recording them soon before they are unveiled for the audience.
He last sung in ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA where he came along with Hrithik Roshan and Abhay Deol for 'Senorita'. Other than that he recited the poem 'Toh Zinda Ho Tum'. However when it came to BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG, he concentrated primarily on acting, even though there were quite a few numbers in the soundtrack. Now for SHAADI KE SIDE EFFECTS though, he is singing a couple of songs. He won't be composing the tunes though as that department is being handled by Pritam, who was also the composer for PYAAR KE SIDE EFFECTS.
It is also logical for Farhan to be crooning the songs, considering the fact that he is playing a musician in the film.
As per the makers, music has been very interestingly woven into the narrative. On hearing the scratch songs and seeing the film, both Saket and Farhan felt that the two tracks which really needed the soul of Sid (character played by Farhan) were 'Yahan Wahan' and 'Bawla sa sapna'. One is about a husband saying sorry to his wife while the other is a father singing a lullaby for his baby. It was decided there and then that Farhan had to be the voice for the song. The fact that he is an actor who can also sing went in his favour.
