Dear Hasleen, Shiv

I'm sure you guys must be feeling horrible after the 'not-so-good' reviews about your debut movie, KARLE PYAAR KARLE. For youngsters, it can be quite damning for the movie to be torn apart.

But you have to be fair to all (including me); the movie was reckless. But that is not why I am writing to you two today. The reason is quite different. What I want to tell you two is that both of you were sincere in your approach with the right dose of confidence. To top it, both of you looked terrific on screen.

Ladies first: Hasleen, given the nature of the script and overall stupidity of the plot, you were terrific. I mean, there is only so much one can do in a given situation and you ensured that you believed in the 'scene' and gave it your all. So what if you had to crack jokes whilst there were just 15 minutes for Preet, your character, to live. I guess that is the impetuosity of youth which the makers were trying to portray.

Friday's are always stressful; you have experienced first-hand, what you might have read in film glossies over the years, last Friday. More than the Friday, it is Saturday and Sunday, which really pull you down! But every Friday need not have the same fate!

Shiv Darshan, congratulations buddy. I am really impressed by your performance. Your dad threw open the platform for you to perform and you did not disappoint him. Your confidence without being arrogant is what is most impressive. That is what shows in your body language

But what is even impressive is your talent; you have the best of both the new generation of Kapoors - Arjun and Ranbir. You are cut out for 'out-and-out' action-oriented revenge movies as well as soft love stories. A deadly cocktail.

Both of you stay put: just concentrate on your work without worrying about the result. What is in your hand is how you perform; how the film will shape up, is not something you two will ever be able to control.

Remember it took Mr Amitabh Bachchan many flops before ZANJEER... and if Akshay Kumar had gone on to teaching karate after he was written off in his earlier films, he would not have been the superstar he is today.

Shiv, initially, you will have all the right doors opening for you because of your obvious connections, but Hasleen might find it difficult. Do help her, too. She will always be your first co-star!

Game on guys...

God Bless You
Martin D'Souza
