Na talwaar ki dhaar se, na goliyon ki bauchaar se
banda darta hai to sirf parvardigaar se

Emperor of dialogues like this and more Raj Kumar aka ‘Jani’ lived an aristocratic life. Likewise he maintained the same aura in film industry too. He worked in movies of his choice and on his own terms as a result there were only few filmmakers with whom he worked in more than one film.

Among the few fortunate is Mehul Kumar, who made the super hit film KRANTIVEER. Mehul Kumar worked with Raaj Kumar in three films MARTE DAM TAK (1987), JUNG BAAZ (1989) and TIRANGAA (1992). Today on the legendary actor Raaj Kumar’s death anniversary, Glamsham.Com pays him homage and narrates his last meeting with his favorite filmmaker Mehul Kumar.

Mehul Kumar in an interview had said, “I was planning my fourth film with Raaj Kumar in which he played the role of an Indian scientist who invents a missile that can demolish precise targets. Raaj Sahab had loved the subject and nodded but before the shooting could start he bid adieu from this world.”

Recalling his last meeting with Raaj Kumar he said, “Raaj ji had great affection for me. I vividly remember on July 2, 1996 I met him at a party thrown by eminent filmmaker Pranlal Mehta. While we were talking he expressed his disappointment on how after death the film industry made the entire last rites into a tamasha hence he wished his own exit to be calm and private.”

Mehul Kumar continues, “I remember Raaj ji’s words he said, Jab jaonga pata bhi nahin chalega. After this a photographer interrupted and Raaj ji gladly agreed. He called me for the photo shot. His words still linger in my ears, Aao jaani, phir kal mile na mile? I eagerly clicked the photo, without knowing it was my last meeting with the legendary actor because next day when I was shooting for MRITYUDAATA at Mehboob Studio, Raaj ji’s son informed me about his sudden demise. Before I could rush for the last rites, Puru (Raaj Kumar’s son) informed me that all the rituals were over. I recalled Raaj ji’s words - Jab jaonga pata bhi nahin chalega as tears rolled down my cheeks.”
