When superstar Rajesh Khanna delivered this philosophical verse in Yash Chopra’s DAAG, little must have he realized that one day his topnotch position too would be acquired by another actor.
However when the day came Rajesh Khanna could not digest the bitter truth and its reported that Rajesh Khanna was so grieved by his downfall that in an interview to a senior journalist he had confided that he was so depressed with his ruin and the rise of Amitabh Bachchan that he would go to the terrace of his bungalow and would loudly confront god for his downfall. He said he would cry bitterly for hours like a child.
Later when he came to terms with the law of nature, he fell in awe with the above verse so much so that the verse became a permanent fixture in his life. Wherever he went for award ceremonies or felicitation event Rajesh Khanna would inevitably quote the above verse.

If readers would recollect in 2009, when Rajesh Khanna was bestowed by the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Lifetime Achievement Award he delivered the same verse with such an intense passion that the 12,000-strong crowd in Macau went emotional.
The irony of the award function was that the award was given to Rajesh Khanna, by none other but by Amitabh Bachchan, the actor who sized his top position in the mid-70s!
