HUMPTY SHARMA KI DULHANIA has emerged as a big hit, what with close to 55 crore already coming in one week flat. In the process, while it has gone past the box office collections of Varun Dhawan's last release MAIN TERA HERO, it would also comfortably surpass the 68 crore total of his bigger grosser till date, STUDENT OF THE YEAR.
The signs were all there though. Still, despite the fact that the buzz was good for the film, visibility correct and hype right, there was a little bit of nervousness that one could sense in Varun during the pre-release days. Was it due to the fact that everyone around him is now delivering a 100 crore success with ease? Or sheer uncertainty that rules in the world of Bollywood where every Friday is as unpredictable as it gets?
''Well, we all wanted the messaging to be correct and people to see the film for what it is worth,'' says Varun, ''Of course we made the film as a happy and entertaining affair. However, there was always an apprehension that audience shouldn't just expect laughs. Some out there asked me if this was a rom-com but as you can see now, it is more of romance and less of comedy. The film has its own twists and turns due to which audience can now see a lot more than just jokes.''

Whatever be the case but the fact remains that from a naughty Swami of MAIN TERA HERO, it is a simple 'Humpty' on display, hence showcasing a different facet of the actor in him.
''Well, let me tell you something,'' Varun garners your attention here, ''While HUMPTY SHARMA KI DULHANIA may come across as a happy film, the challenge was to take it beyond the 'hee hee haa haa' route. Since this is a love story, there had to be heartbreak, triumphs, defeats, tears, smiles, just about everything. The fun lied in balancing it all out and audience response shows that it all worked after all.''
