Post interval you injected some kick into KICK. Your opening scene was a riot! Mazaa aa gaya!
Of course the film is raking in the moolah, just by bhai’s presence, and that I must say is the love his fans have for him. But no one can discredit your mammoth contribution to the film, which took it several notches higher. In the first half, it was getting unbearable…
Then you were wheeled in, and I settled in my seat. Just watching you flesh out this maniacal character was a joy in itself. Of course, many will say that you have done a wrong thing by working in a film which has no script. But believe me, once you came, the script came in automatically; just by your sheer presence, and confident display of yet another complicated character on screen. Moreover, KICK has given you much more eyeballs than most other sensible films you may have done.
Taimur from TALAASH, Sonu from MISS LOVELY and A Khan from KAHAANI got a different shade. Not to mention your other characters from various other films, even the irrelevant roles you played earlier on to get a foothold in the industry.
I guess, you got onto KICK to get commercial footage. I can see how your mind is working, knowing fully well how this industry functions and how the distributors think. Distributors do business. They do not bank on talent. But a film-maker does, they must repose faith in quality actors, so that we audiences can enjoy classy performances.
I also believe that a few of your films are stuck because distributors feel that your films don’t work. Distributors, we audience want to watch Nawazuddin! Production houses which release films without marketing them impact an actor’s career negatively, and you (distributors) wrongly feel that audiences do not want to watch the actor. Just market his films well, and see the box-office ring!!
There is an audience out there who want to watch meaningful cinema, and also want to watch actors like you on the big screen bring characters alive. But the commercials of film distribution work otherwise, I believe. After KICK, that semi-maniacal laughter might have reached the ears of the distributors holding up your films.
Let’s hope we see more of you in meaningful cinema as well. Personally, I got a Kick out of your performance!
