Bataa ae zindagi yeh raaz kya hai
Yeh jeena ka naya andaz kya hai
Khamoshi maut hai agar aadmi ki
Rafi ki har taraf awaaz kya hai!

MOHAMMAD RAFI
MOHAMMAD RAFI

Apt words to describe Mohammed Rafi, the genius playback singer who ruled the roost from the 50 to 80s with his melodious songs that enchant even the present generation and shall continue to regal generations to come.

Mohammad Rafi bid adieu on 31 July, 1980, 34 years have elapsed but not a single day goes when we do not hear a song of Rafi Sahab either on TV on radio. Thus the poet in the above verse rightly wonders if death signifies muteness then how come Rafi’s voice echoes from every corner. Well that’s the charisma called Mohammad Rafi!

Glamsham.Com remembers Mohd. Rafi on his 34th death anniversary and recalls how Shabbir Kumar, the clone of Mohd. Rafi credits his success to Rafi Sahab.
Eminent Bollywood singer Shabbir Kumar, who made a living singing Rafi Sahab’s song on stage before becoming a singer, credits his success to Rafi Sahab. Paying his condolence to Rafi Sahab he said, “Mohammad Rafi, the monarch of playback singing in Indian Cinema, might not be with us physically but his immortal voice keeps his memory fresh as morning dew from dawn to dusk through his songs. His songs even after decades appear as if they have been recorded a few seconds ago.”

Crediting his success to Rafi Sahab he said, “Few may know that I had the privilege of singing with Rafi Sahab in two films - BAGHAWAT AND FARZ KI JUNG. During which Rafi Sahab blessed me a bright future. But when the two movies failed and my career could not take a start, I felt disappointed. But I had faith in Rafi Sahab’s blessings.”

He added, “When Rafi Sahab passed away, I was one among the millions of his fans who had come across the corners of India and abroad to take his last glimpse. However, among his million fans, I was the fortunate one who got the momentary honour of lowering Rafi’s Sahab’s mortal in to the grave. During the process my pen fell into the grave, believe it not, since then my career took an upward rise as if Rafi sahab had penned my destiny!”
