Now this was a sequence that was perhaps not meant to be. For a key sequence in Vashu Bhagnani and Fox produced HUMSHAKALS, Sajid Khan took his cast and crew to Peterborough Stadium which is situated in U.K. Everyone associated with the shoot was quite happy with not just the results that they were there to be seen on screen but also the time spent at the stadium.
However, at the last moment, it was decided that the resultant sequence, which lasted a good five minutes, had to be deleted from the final cut that is now making it to theaters.
Even as the call was taken on a creative level, from the production perspective this meant a loss of around 1 crore since the shoot was quite expensive. Reason being that at an average, shooting in the U.K. costs anywhere around 30-35 lakhs. Since the team of HUMSHAKALS was at the stadium for 2-3 days, work worth 1 crore had to be edited out from the film.
However, one person who stood by the team as a rock was producer Vashu Bhagnani who didn't flinch at this loss. Though he was obviously disappointed by the fact that the sequence couldn't be retained, he didn't complain.
"This is what makes Vashu really special as a producer," says Sajid, "It was heartbreaking for him too, just like it was for rest of the cast and crew. But then he has been in the industry for long enough and realizes how things sometimes do not work out."
Well, as they say, all is fair in love, war and filmmaking!
HUMSHAKALS stars Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Ram Kapoor in triple roles and also features Esha Gupta, Tamannaah Bhatia, Bipasha Basu, Satish Shah & Chunky Pandey. Presented by Fox Star Studios, produced by Vashu Bhagnani and directed by Sajid Khan, HUMSHAKALS is set release on 20th June 2014.
