Boxer turned actor Vijender Singh is excited for his debut film FUGLY, which hits the theatres today. Ask him what made him step into acting and he reveals, ''I have always loved movies, especially Bollywood. I love Akshay Kumar and that is why I am into movies. After winning medal in 2008, I had many scripts coming my way but I loved FUGLY hence decided to do it.''
He continues further, ''I have always been passionate about acting. Bollywood is very big. And whenever I see Akshay Kumar, Dharmendra or Sunny Deol, pata nahi kya ho jaata hai mujhe.'' Interestingly, Vijender has had the opportunity of sharing screen space with Bollywood superstars Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan in his first film itself. ''I know Akshay sir and Salman sir since 2008. While I along with Mallika Sherawat shot for a show with Salman sir on 'Dus ka Dum', Akshay sir is like a family. But sharing a screen with them is a big thing. However, I wasn't scared dancing with both of them. In fact it was fun.''
So now that he has had a taste of both acting and boxing, which one does he enjoy more and he admits, ''Acting and boxing both are very taxing. Boxing is different from Bollywood but hard work is required for both the careers. However, I enjoyed shooting for FUGLY more.''
Probe him more whether he plans to switch his career and Singh adds, ''Acting hasn't replaced my boxing career. I am balancing both boxing and acting career. Right now I am busy training for the World Championship but I will continue acting. Agar log chahte hai ki main bade screen pe acha lagu toh why not?'' Produced by Akshay Kumar and Ashvini Yardi's Grazing Goat Productions, FUGLY is directed by Kabir Sadanand and also stars Mohit Marwah, Kiara Advani, Arfi Lamba and Jimmy Shergill in the lead. FUGLY releases today, June 13, 2014.
