Vidya Balan is one of the reigning actresses of Bollywood today. However, it wasn't easy for her to step in the industry. Just like her character in the upcoming film BOBBY JASOOS, who strives hard to make a mark in the male-dominated society, in real life also, Vidya had her share of struggle to realize Bollywood dreams!
Vidya, who hails from a family bred with middle class Indian values, faced hard time convincing parents, especially her mother, who wasn't really keen of her daughter turning an actress.
'My father has always been supportive. He never dictated me as to what I should do. He was always like itna shok hai toh karlene do… But my mother was not very supportive of my acting career. She kind of didn't approve it. She was scared because according to her "we didn’t know anyone from the film world". Just like others, she too had a perception that film industry is a big bad world,' Vidya opens up.
She further adds in the same vein, "My mother wanted me to concentrate on studies and do some conventional 9-5 job. Though we had fights on the same, I was firm about it. She accompanied along with me to the shoots initially. She would be protective and be around me to ensure that I am safe, obviously because of the casting couch and thing. But gradually she realized that safety is in one's own hands. It depends on you how people should treat you. Though she had her reservations, she always supported me in her own way. Eventually she realized that I can take care of myself. She had complete confidence in the values she inculcated in us and our upbringing. So, yes initially I had to do lot of convincing."
Also starring Ali Fazal, produced by Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha's Born Free Entertainment, directed by debutant Samar Shaikh, BOBBY JASOOS is all set to release on July 4, 2014
