The expected front runner from amongst this Friday's multiple releases, QUEEN, TOTAL SIYAPAA and GULAAB GANG, suffered at the multiplexes due to confusion about its release plans, as a result of a last minute court clearance.
GULAAB GANG AND QUEEN
We are obviously referring to Benares Media Works and Sahara Movie Studios' GULAAB GANG. While the Anubhav Sinha produced GULAAB GANG is doing exceedingly well at the single screens, it was Vikas Bahl's QUEEN which managed to hold its own at some multiplexes. The Ali Zafar starrer TOTAL SIYAPAA too managed select patronage at metro multiplexes.
As things stand, due to the by and large positive reviews, decent word of mouth and Madhuri's award worthy performance, GULAAB GANG (doing very well at single screens), is already showing signs of a pick up at multiplexes with doubts about its release clearing up. Having said that, QUEEN, with its good promotions and Kangana's great performance will not lag far behind and will get its fair share of admiring audience, though the single screens are a matter of concern. The third release, TOTAL SIYAPAA, was never going to be a single screen fare and it will be hoping to cash in on Ali Zafar's star power at good multiplexes and consolidate further.
Meanwhile last Friday's prominent release, the Vidya Balan and Farhan Akhtar starrer, SHAADI KE SIDE EFFECTS, managed an impressive opening week (given the moderate budget for the cast and mountings), netting 31- 32 crore. The film, with even a half decent second week, is all set to be another feather in the cap of class actress Vidya Balan and the now 'prestige actor' Farhan Akhtar. Additionally SHAADI KE SIDE EFFECTS is still doing quite well in the overseas.
