For someone who has been born and brought up in a filmy environment, having certain belongingness to Bollywood and its ilk comes naturally for Sonam Kapoor. However for Ayushmann Khurranna, an outsider from Chandigarh who has made his way into Bollywood via radio and television, there is still a sense of inhibition that he hasn't been able to shrug away.
This is what the VICKY DONOR star experienced during the initial days of filming BEWAKOOFIYAAN when he started working with Sonam Kapoor. Other than the fact that he hadn't quite socially interacted with her, what further made Ayushmann apprehensive about Sonam's persona of being this impeccable 'style icon'.
Since in his debut film he had another fellow Chandigarh girl Yami Gautam opposite him, there was no such inhibition. Ditto for NAUTANKI SAALA where his leading lady was a debutante and an outsider as well. However in an out and out filmy setup of BEWAKOOFIYAAN where there is everyone, from veteran Rishi Kapoor to another Kapoor scion Sonam, it was time for Ayushmann to be nervous.
'Yes, I was, and more so because of the on-screen image that I had seen of her over last few years,' admits Ayushmann, 'As a matter of fact, once in a while I also used to take fashion tips from her. There was this particular day when I had to go out for an event and I sent her pictures of my dresses so that she could help me choose one.'
As ice started breaking between the two actors, Ayushmann realized that in Sonam, there was this regular girl beneath the surface.
'I remember going to her place and seeing her as this normal young girl in the comfort of her surroundings,' recollects Ayushmann, 'Before that I was quite intimidated with her due to her style icon status. However today I think that while she has this facade of being a fashionista and all, at heart she is quite simple. I think she is playing the balancing act between her personal and social life quite well. I am impressed.'
