From crooning love ballads for young broken hearts to being the voice of country's only 60+ superstar who is still serenading girls, Arijit Singh has indeed come a long way in the quickest time possible. Turning into an overnight session exactly a year back with his songs in AASHIQUI 2, Arijit has now been roped in by none less than A.R. Rahman for Rajinikanth's KOCHADAIIYAN.
A.R. RAHMAN, ARIJIT SINGH AND RAJINIKANTH
For the Hindi version of the song, Rahman wanted someone who had a good command over the language and could do well in a 'ghazal' like rendition. Though KOCHADAIIYAAN is a period outing based in the seventh century, there is a situation in the film that requires a romantic rendezvous between Rajinikanth and Deepika Padukone. This is where the song in question comes into picture.
Titled 'Dilchaspian', the song boasts of a trademark Arijit flavour to it. For the youngster who so far had been singing for youngsters in the B-town, it turned out to be a crowning moment of glory to be roped in for a Rajinikanth starrer no less.
For Arijit, it is a reason good enough to be delighted.
Says a close associate of the singer, 'How many out there actually get this opportunity and this one can happen only once in a lifetime. Moreover, Rahman hardly ropes in someone from the Bollywood playback singing scene. He has put together his own set of talented artists from various parts of the country and most of the voices that you hear in his films are unexplored. In case of Arijit he has made an impression and that by itself is a huge honor for the rising star.'
Now one waits to see whether the singer too has obliged Rajinikanth by giving him a 'Tum Hi Ho' moment with 'Dilchaspian'!
