Sabbir Khan: Sajid Nadiadwala is my mentor

Half a decade after directing KAMBAKKTH ISHQ (2009), filmmaker Sabbir Khan is now returning with HEROPANTI. The producer who has backed him in both the films is the same, Sajid Nadiadwala. While he got an opportunity to work with two major superstars (Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor) in his very first film, this time around he has a responsibility to launch two absolute newcomers (Tiger Shroff, Kriti Sanon).

It is also remarkable to see that Sajid is continuing to put his money into a one film old filmmaker when he is collaborating with the likes of Karan Johar, Imtiaz Ali and Kabir Khan for his other affairs.
'Well, Sajid and I go a long way and share a great relationship. He is like my elder brother,' says Sabbir, who had also assisted in Sajid's MUJHSE SHAADI KAROGI which was directed by David Dhawan, 'He has been my mentor all through and we have had this good mutual respect for each other.'
It was pretty much a 'luck by chance' moment for Sabbir when Sajid suggested that he should give a serious shot to direction.
'When he told me that he wanted me to direct a film for him, I thought that he was just being polite. He persisted with me and in fact asked me why I was not taking him seriously. This is when I started work on the scripts and many of these were romantic comedies. Then KAMBAKKTH ISHQ came to me as he and Akshay were interested. That film made me a director,' he details.
On his second film HEROPANTI though, he spent quite some time putting it together and decided to make it entirely in his own style.
'I am aware that all eyes are on how the film has shaped out and marks the launch of two newcomers. I am confident of my work and am prepared to hear audience reactions now,' he smiles.
Audience is waiting too for 23rd May to announce the verdict.
