This Friday witnessed the release of the Ketan Mehta directed RANG RASIYA and Cape Of Good Films and Ashwin Varde Productions' THE SHAUKEENS.
||THE SHAUKEENS and HAPPY NEW YEAR
As expected and despite just an extended cameo by Akshay Kumar, THE SHAUKEENS opened with a fair to decent 30-35 percent response during the morning shows at many places. The film also showed signs of a pick up during the latter shows. Given the reasonable budget, THE SHAUKEENS may just sneak through to safety for the makers.
The second release, the Randeep-Nandana starrer, RANG RASIYA, which boasts of good cinematic attributes and performances, failed to appeal to the audience with a 5-10 percent start on an average. The makers can still hope for a turnaround as the film is getting critical appreciation.
CHECK OUT: THE SHAUKEENS Movie Review
The two releases of last Friday, the Kamal Sadanah directed ROAR and Indra Kumar's Rekha-Sharman starrer SUPER NANI, have both been rejected, though the former scored convincingly over the latter. While ROAR netted 8 crore, SUPER NANI saw a paltry 3 crore, during the opening week.
Meanwhile Farah Khan's Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah starrer, HAPPY NEW YEAR (which yielded many screens to THE SHAUKEENS), went into the third week with reasonable footfalls, and should touch the 200 crore figure during the fourth weekend, if not by the third week.
Just for records HAPPY NEW YEAR added another 35 crore, thus netting 186 crore (including dubbed versions) in two weeks from India, and is a super hit for its worldwide distributor, Yash Raj Films.
