From Ramba Ho Ho Ho Samba Ho… to I am a disco dancer… to OLala OLala… music maestro Bappi Lahiri is generally associated with western beats. But it's ironical that the song, with which Bappi Lahiri became a name to reckon with and shall remain immortal in the annals of Indian cinema, is a classical composition.
KISHORE KUMAR and BAPPI LAHIRI
Readers have guessed it right the song is unarguably the super hit number Chalte Chalte Mere Ye Geet Yaad Rakhana. Kabhi Albida Na Kehana…In fact the song was such a super hit that it was instrumental in the success of the movie, which had just Simi Garewal, in the name of star cast to boost!
What's more the song ruled the charts of the admired Binaca Geet Mala hit parade, the popular radio show anchored by Ameen Sayani.
And last but not the least readers would be rather surprised to know that the verse Chalte Chalte Mere Ye Geet Yaad Rakhana. Kabhi Albida Na Kehana… has been inscribed on the samadhi of legendary singer Kishore Kumar in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, the home town of Kishore Kumar.
Kishore Kumar adored this song so much that he made it a point to sing the song at the end of all his stage shows and had made a will that the song be engraved on his samadhi.
In an interview an elated Bappi Lahiri said, “Kishore mama has sung several timeless songs under many stalwarts music directors but he selected my composition to be engraved on his samadhi is the greatest compliment of my life. I may have won several awards but all are pygmies in front of Kishore mama's accolade to me.”
