This is the latest development. The old guard is eased out and the new guard takes over the reins of the reconstituted board of trustees of the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI). This puts the revival plan of MAMI in place that organizes Mumbai’s only international film festival known now as Mumbai Film Festival (MFF) that is all set to take place between 14-21 October, 2014.
KIRAN RAO and VIKRAMADITYA MOTWANE
The Festival was at the verge of being written off and has survived owing to the efforts of some good Samaritans like Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Anand Mahindra, Rohit Khattar, Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, Anupama Chopra, among many others, who heeded a social media SOS sent out by the festival director S. Narayan and his associates Sanjay Ram and Satyen Bardolai.
The process of inducting new blood began years ago and the first to join the Board among the new age filmmakers was Karan Johar. Two years back Farhan Akhtar and Anurag Kashyap were inducted as well. Now, Kiran Rao and Vikramaditya Motwane have joined the Board, replacing Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi.
This process is not yet over. Some more additions and subtractions can take place later.
The reconstituted and younger MAMI Board of Trustees looks like this: - Shyam Benegal, Chairman, Amit Khanna Sudheer Mishra Karan Johar Farhan Akhtar Anurag Kashyap Kiran Rao Vikramaditya Motwane
