The most striking thing that will arrest your eyes at filmmaker Yash Chopra's office is the portrait of eminent lyricist and his dear friend Sahir Ludhianvi, reminding about their eternal friendship that stood rock solid even during crisis.

Though their relation dates back to early 50s when young Yash Chopra assisted his elder brother B. R. Chopra at B.R. Films. However, their friendship consolidated into strong bond when Sahir helped Yash Chopra at a time, when the film industry folks had deserted him and his elder brother B. R. Chopra parted ways.
Readers may be aware that in the early 70s the two Chopra brothers parted ways and Yash Chopra had to start from the scratch. However, Yash Chopra was confident of making it on his own with his experience and esteem in Bollywood. But alas his confidence was left jolted when the financers and the near and dear ones left him on crossroad the moment he left the B.R. Chopra camp!
At this crucial time it was his dear friend Sahir Ludhianvi, who came to his rescue. He not only arranged finance from a financial institution on his own guarantee but also convinced, Gulshan Nanda, the top most writers of the 60s to pen an intriguing love story for Yash Chopra's debut film. Thus was born Yash Raj Banner's first film DAAG, a poem of love, starring Rajesh Khanna, Sharmila Tagore and Rakhee.
Interestingly, when the stars came to know about the financial crises they too did the film free of charge!
The movie was a huge hit and even fetched Yash Chopra ‘Best Director Filmfare Award'.
With the immense success of the movie, Yash Chopra paid twice the sum to all the stars and crew who had worked complimentary!!
