Bollywood has been bit by biopics bug! With the success of films like THE DIRTY PICTURE, PAAN SINGH TOMAR, BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG, MARY KOM, more and more filmmakers are looking forward to recreate the past or present the stories of timeless men or women on celluloid.
ANANTH MAHADEVAN
When we asked Ananth Mahadevan, who has made a biopic (GOUR HARI DASTAAN) on the life of Oriya freedom fighter Gour Hari Das, about the current fad, he at once commented, “Bollywood is just using a formula to encash on the biopics. They claim it to be biopics based on the life of some or other personality but it can't be termed biopics in truest sense. You can't take cinematic liberties.”
He added, “Bollywood is yet to elevate or has to come a long way in making the biographies. It has still not grown up. For me biopic means being faithful and honest to the subject rather than tweaking it here and there according to your desires.”
Starring Vinay Pathak, Konkana Sen Sharma and Ranvir Shorey, GAUR HARI DASTAAN is all set to hit the screens on August 14, 2015.
