The new release of the week, Kabir Khan's Saif-Katrina starrer, PHANTOM, was never expected to emulate the thunderous start of the director's last all time blockbuster, BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN. But yes, it was obvious (and predicted by us!) that the start by PHANTOM would be impressive and that it was!

While the opening day (Friday) saw PHANTOM managing 8.40 crore, the second day (Saturday) witnessed a 50 percent jump to 12.60 crore. Sunday saw an even higher 13 crore figure, giving the film a 34 crore figure (as per early estimates), during the opening weekend.

Given the fact that Saif Ali Khan's last few films have ended in the 25-35 crore range, the first weekend figures must be very heartening for the actor. With the budget of PHANTOM being 55 crore (raw), the film may bring a smile to the face(s) of all concerned, by the end of its run, fingers crossed.

The other release of the same week, BAANKEY KI CRAZY BARAAT, which saw a limited release, failed to make any mark whatsoever at the ticket window.
