The ugly side of movie promotions
Movie promotions at one point in time were a much-looked forward to event. Today, it has become tiresome… for the actors involved as well as the aam junta who are fed with the ghisa pita stories of how this actor did that on the set and how that actor played a prank on this actress who either fainted on the set or got scared. Even actors cringe [of course much after the release is done with] at the type of stories fabricated by the PR machinery.
There is this actress who is now planning a come-back who mentioned how she was fed up with the way stories were being planted and how she had to agree because it was for the promotion of the film. “But look at where it got me?” she rues. Given an option now, I would not resort to any such thing today.
Actors, who have been paid mega bucks, have no choice but to tag along with the marketing gimmicks and the sometimes gruelling travel schedules. At times, the schedules are so hectic, that they travel the length and breadth of the country as well as abroad for the promotion of the movie.
What also need to be looked into are the clothes they wear. They cannot be seen repeating their same outfits at every event.
Tough task this!
WELCOME BACK cast in Dubai for their last promotional leg
Speaking of promotions, Anil Kapoor and John Abraham are the current actors who are doing a helluva travelling to promote WELCOME BACK and though they say they are enjoying it, methinks it is getting to be hectic.
On Wednesday, John, Anil and the entire cast of WELCOME BACK will be in Dubai promoting their movie and they have a day-long schedule planned with the print and electronic media. After that is the Red Carpet event with the premier of the movie followed by an exclusive dinner with their invited guests.
That's a lot to pack in one day for anybody. Considering that the actors have already done a lot of promotional activities, they will be heaving a sigh of relief. The movie releases on Friday. After that, their tryst with WELCOME BACK will be over.
Unless of course, they would be required for another sequel!
When actors back out of movie promotions…
Since we are on movie promotions, it is interesting to note how actors who have not yet made it, but who, according to small time producers and directors are BIG, take these guys for a ride at the time of promotions.
They know that the film is going nowhere when they are shooting, but since they have been offered big monies, they agree to be a part of the film. But when the time comes to promote it, they back out and infact, make it appear to be that they have nothing to do with the movie.
Now that is not being professional at all. If you are a part of the project, why shy away from promoting it? You never thought twice when you signed on!
