The auditorium resonated with the sound of applause and laughter as master filmmaker David Dhawan took center stage with Rumy Jafry. Veteran writer-director Rumy Jafry who has worked on innumerable films with David Dhawan quizzed the maker on various aspects of his life and career starting from his FTII days to being the father of two successful children, one a director and other an actor.
David Dhawan's conversation reflected his characteristic humour when he quizzed Rumy Jafry on whether he was going to a mushaira in the sherwani instead of a master class only to have Rumy Jafry reveal that the suggestion to wear the same was made by none other than Dhawan himself! David Dhawan revealed about how he never took auditions or gave a complete script to an actor ever be it Amitabh Bachchan or Govinda or Anil Kapoor. Keeping in mind the changing times, Dhawan quipped that he probably will have to give son Varun the script before signing him today.
The master class was great learning with Dhawan sharing his struggle, success and the journey that was not so easy, narrated in his humorous style. His advice to the directors of today was simple, 'You should love the germ of an idea that becomes the subject later. Only then can you make the film. If you're making a film for Rs. 100, ensure that it gets completed in Rs. 75.'
Talking about IFTDA, Dhawan lauded the move to a have a master class every month adding that their latest effort to set up an old age home to help the film fraternity was a very welcome step.
