SHOLAY is a sublime on screen nirvana for millions and many round the globe. The timeless, seamless, piece of art written by Salim – Javed and helmed by Ramesh Sippy staring Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bhaduri and Amjad Khan has set an untouchable pedestal in Indian cinema that continues to enlighten, entertain, educate and drives the audience crazy in it ecstasy. Forty years has passed and SHOLAY (released on 15th August 1975) still rules. Time and cinema around the world has changed but SHOLAY is undefeatable. A peep into the evergreen cult (probably the only Indian movie to enjoy maximum repeat values) churns an astonishing fact that heightens the nostalgia and seduces you to echo the evergreen rhapsody on Indian screen with a chorus – SHOLAY is a lesson in episodic cinema.

Amazing.. how could be a feature film seem episodic.. well that's the unique quality of Ramesh Sippy's master class in movie storytelling that's daringly ahead of it times, a testament to the stimulating uniqueness of commercial cinema that also scores in making some social comments and unbelievably told in an episodic way.

SHOLAY is b-town script legends Salim - Javed 's most celebrated work and also a master class in episodic script writing. This rare characteristic in the script writing of SHOLAY is not very well known but it is an astonishing fact.

We remember (even if we say immortal.. it won't sound stretched) SHOLAY for Gabbar, Thakur, Jai, Veeru, Basanti and they are part of the main storyline. Remarkably Salim – Javed in their striking brilliance has also made the following characters famous without making them part of the main story line by twining their individual parts and sequences which are funny, joyful, poignant, dramatic, wicked with the main plot. Making this unique saga of battle, survival, duty, responsibility, love, friendship, sacrifice, hope, togetherness, and unity a never before seen on screen experience.

Let's press our refresh button from SHOLAY in our minds and revisit those episodes again. Click on the next button below.
