This is second time in a row that an Indian film has won this award. In 2014 it was KILLA by Avinash Arun that won the Generation K Plus International Jury Grand Prix and a special mention by the Children's Jury. In 2015 Berlinale it's the turn of Nagesh Kukunoor's DHANAK (RAINBOW) to take a bow. The film got a special mention by the Children's Jury as well as international Jury Grand Prix, repeating the feat of KILLA. In 2011 Rajan Khosa's film GATTU had won a special mention in the same category.

The award carries a cash prize of € 7,500 by the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk. This is what the citation of the award says about the film. “This dynamically-directed film delivers joy and heartbreak in equal measure - the young brother and sister at its heart and the unbreakable love between them are irresistible. As we journey across the country with these two young people, we become deeply invested in their quirky “against all odds” quest. We were constantly surprised by the twists and turns in their journey, and the unusual, eccentric characters that awaits them at each and every juncture! Filled with color, magic, music, spontaneity and a plenty of emotion, this film lives up to its name and delivers a celebration of life to savor long after the end credits roll!”

DHANAK is the story ten-year-old girl Pari and her blind younger brother Chotu. Both are inseparable and its cast includes Krrish Chhabria, Hetal Gada, Gulfam Khan, Vipin Sharma, Suresh Menon, Chet Dixon, Fllora Saini, Vijay Maurya, Vibha Chhibber, and Rajiv Laxman.
