There was a general perception in the pre-historic and archaic era of Hindi cinema that the total screen time was the hallmark of stardom. Paras and paras in tabloids were dedicated as to how star X had 50 minutes while star Y had 51 minutes. And thus the inference - Star Y is bigger than star X, due to the one minute extra screen time!

However, off late the importance is more on how critical the role is in the context of the film. The path breaking film(s) that changed the perception were ANDHA KANOON, ARTH and DIL TO PAGAL HA (to name a few), where stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Raj Kiran and Akshay Kumar managed to hold their own against the listed hero(s). One is also reminded of Rakhee's brief but memorable appearance in the Prakash Mehra directed, the iconic Amitabh Bachchan starrer, LAAWARIS.

Circa 2015, and the film in question is BADLAPUR, where Huma Qureshi, Radhika Apte and even the so called leading lady Yami Gautam hardly had any screen time (as opposed to the leading men Nawaz & Varun), but they excelled in respective roles. In fact as once one walks way from BADLAPUR, the mentioned ladies linger on in the memory. Take them away from BADLAPUR and the film will turn soulless!

To substantiate our view we are recall our recent conversation with class actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui (who will walk away with quite few awards in 2015), who when queried about the presence of so many heroines in BADLAPUR said, “When you watch the film, you will see for yourself that all the ladies are very essential to the story, and if you leave EVEN one out, the film will not be the same.” Nawaz also told us that all of them are excellent in BADLAPUR.

Well, one can only say KUDOS to Huma, Radhika, Yami as also Divya Dutta, for their short but stunning appearance(s) in BADLAPUR (irrespective of screen time), the first probable hit of 2015.
