New releases are dull, Akshay's BABY blooms with 60 crore week!
January 31, 2015 11:19:10 AM IST By Abid, Glamsham Editorial
The new releases of the week, Vishesh Films and Fox Star Studios' KHAMOSHIYAN and the Vibhu Puri directed Ayushmann Khurrana and Pallavi Sharda starrer HAWAIZAADA, both opened to a dull response at the ticket window.
BABY, KHAMOSHIYAN, HAWAIZAADA and RAHASYA
While KHAMOSHIYAN saw a 10-12 percent start, HAWAIZAADA was lower at around 9-10 percent. Given the dull start, both KHAMOSHIYAN as well as HAWAIZAADA have to show a marked improvement during the next two days of the weekend to foster any hopes of a good outcome.
Meanwhile after a good to decent first day, T-Series' Neeraj-Akshay venture BABY saw an improvement in collections with each passing day of the extended Republic Day weekend, and ended the first week, netting in excess of 60 crore. Additionally, BABY has retained a fair amount of screens even in the second week. The film has good chances of turning out to be the first success of 2015, provided it maintains decently during the coming week.
The other release of the same week as BABY, the Sonam starrer DOLLY KI DOLI, saw a fair opening weekend but could not hold on much after that, ending the first week netting nearly 17 crore (to be validated). The film has a tough battle ahead as it did not retain even fifty percent of the screens from those it had during the first week.
