Southern siren Taapsee Pannu is gearing up for her first starry film BABY after working with young guns in CHASHME BADDOOR and upcoming films RUNNING SHAADI.COM & AGRA KA DABRA. BABY stars the likes of Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher, Kay Kay Menon, Danny Denzongpa, and others and it is directed by Neeraj Pandey.
Prod Taapsee if she is shifting gears with BABY and she says, “If doing starry films was the case I would have chosen only commercial films. As it's a safe bet and safest way to be successful. I always wanted to work with young and new talents. I prefer working with new people. At least you get to do something meaty there. You don't get variety in starry films.” She adds, “You rarely get BABY types of films. It's a lifetime role. It's not a heroine-heroine kind of role. Though I have just half an hour screen space in the film, it's worth it and people will definitely remember my part. As it is Neeraj Pandey makes ensemble cast films. It's never a hero-heroine type of subject. So it was the best thing to experiment.”
Though BABY has Akshay Kumar as the lead actor, it was just an added attraction for Taapsee. “I chose BABY because of the role and script. Akshay was an added attraction for me. Stars are just bonus for a good script,” she says.

After doing fun-loving roles, Taapsee was in the pursuit of portraying serious roles on-screen for a long time. And with BABY she got that opportunity.
“I was doing young and fun roles only. I wanted to do something serious; something that makes people think and that Taapsee is doing something unusual. I am getting good response already for it,” the chirpy actress says.
But how about being the only woman in a male-dominated venture? Taapsee quips, “I am also one of the males in this male-dominated film. I am one of the heroes of the film.”
Produced by T-series, BABY is all set to hit the screens on January 23, 2015.
