Amitabh Bachchan last played the ‘hero' in the 1999 film SOORYAVANSHAM. In a double role, his younger self was paired opposite the late Soundarya almost 30 years his junior then! The huge age gap showed. The younger Amitabh was visibly uncomfortable in his scenes with Soundarya. His gait was almost apologetic. The film bombed and soon he took to playing roles of a father beginning with MOHABBATEIN, followed by BAGHBHAN. Amitabh was 57 years old then!|
Sunny Deol today is 57 years old and he has been paired opposite a heroine almost 30 years his junior in Kangana Ranaut in I LOVE NY. Surprisingly, Sunny has done what Amitabh could not-he has pulled off a love story with charm and grace. As the man not wanting to get into a committed relationship and then falling head-on, ‘love-at-first-sight', he is convincing, appealing and believable. He manages to hold his own against a resurgent Kangana and they both make a handsome couple. Not once could I see the burgeoning age-gap as he played the mature man in love with ease.

Tell me, how many 57-year-olds will be able to pull off a role like this, passing off as a 30-year-old?
Well done, Sunny paaji!
Will the real Sanjay Mishra please stand up!
Sanjay Mishra is performing with such rare clarity that I'm sure directors can ‘can' his shot in his sleep as well. So adept is Mishra ji in his roles that he has been sleepwalking into every character he has been playing of late.
||LOOK AT ME DHONDU, I AM THE SAME EVERYWHERE! JUST CHILL!
His hairstyle remains the same, ditto his unshaven look. In fact even his body language and style of dialogue delivery for any character he plays in any movie is the same. There is never any improvisation. I can understand if the actor just wants to be himself, but what about the director? Does he not have a vision of the character he wants Mishraji to play? Is there no character sketch for Mishra ji or is it one Mishra fits all roles?
Look at the last three releases and a few before that and you will know what I mean- MISS TANAKPUR HAAZIR HO, UVAA and ZED PLUS. In all three movies you will find Sanjay Mishra doing the same things, wearing the same type of clothes, with the same hairstyle and the same unshaven look, delivering dialogues in the same manner!
The trailers of his upcoming film BANKEY KI CRAZY BARAAT are out and you will once again see Mishra ji doing what he has already been doing.
The same has been the case with Om Puri of late.
Creativity is a craft where you cannot allow monotony to set in. The day that happens, the actor within has died!
The ABCD of Rs 100 crore!
I'm not familiar with the numbers game in the industry, so I don't know how a film enters the Rs 100 Crore club. But I am a little surprised to learn that Remo D'Souza's ABCD 2 is the latest entrant to this club.
Congratulations to the team.
Now don't get me wrong, the film had no script, just gloss and yet it has grossed in that amount. Pray, tell me, are the makers really happy with the way the film finally shaped up? I mean, did this film really deserve to make Rs 100 crore?
Shraddha Kapoor and Varun Dhawan are the finest emerging talent. Remo too has shown chutzpah. I have tremendous regards for their talent and ability-all three of them.
But Rs 100 crore? Really?
Then again, we also had CHENNAI EXPRESS and HAPPY NEW YEAR making it there.
Wonder why Sajid Khan's HIMMATWALA did not make it.
I'm still trying to figure that one out!
