Though Dibakar Banerjee's DETECTIVE BYOMKESH BAKSHY is based on the old fictional detective Byomkesh Bakshy series created by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay, the filmmaker has presented his film in a very contemporary manner.

Meiyang Chang, who plays a drug dealer in the film and whose role has been specially designed for DETECTIVE BYOMKESH BAKSHY as we reported last time, says,  “Dibakar did not make the film and music as per 1943 setup, though it's based in that era. He wanted to make DETECTIVE BYOMKESH BAKSHY in a contemporary style. Despite being set in the backdrop of Kolkata, he didn't the change the lingo. You will meet a modern day Detective Byomkesh Bakshy.”
Though Meiyang has a small part to play in the film, he says you can't afford to miss an opportunity to work in a Dibakar film.

“Dibakar Banerjee ki koi bhi film mai role chota ya bada nahi hota. He writes that well. If you are sensible you can't say no to his films. You would sign his films blindly. I am very excited and kicked about DETECTIVE BYOMKESH BAKSHY,” Chang says swiftly.

Having worked along with the filmmaker, Meiyang showers praises on Dibakar's style of functioning.

He says, “I believe Dibakar is one of the most sorted, calm and well-planned director. We prepared well during workshops so that we don't waste enough time on the sets that is the best part about his films. Everywhere I have seen chaos, people shouting on the sets. Dibakar ke set pe we felt ki hum aaram kar rahe hai ya kaam karrahe hai (but on Dibakar's sets we feel either we are resting or working). It was a calm atmosphere. Even though we shot on real locations, it was a smooth functioning.”

He adds, “Even his style of storytelling is unique. While most directors get stuck in the rut after a point of time, it's not with Dibakar. He goes ahead with his conviction. He never spoon-feeds or guides. Even if the actor doesn't understand he won't tell him. Although he will hint, however the actor discovers himself while working along with him. Dibakar is so understanding and evolving director. That's his specialty. These are the lessons that I will always take forward.”
Also starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Swastika Mukherjee, DETECTIVE BYOMKESH BAKSHY is set to hit the screens on April 3, 2015.
