The friendship of Sahir Ludhianvi and Yash Chopra is regarded as the most iconic friendship in Bollywood because from DHOOL KA PHOOL (1959) to KALA PATHAR (1979) the duo worked together consistently for two decades. During this phase Yash Chopra never opted for any other lyricist than Sahir.

After Sahir's death, his photo adored Yash Chopra's office as a lasting tribute to their dear friendship.
So why was Sahir Ludhianvi angry with Yash Chora, you may wonder?
Well according to Sagar Sarhadi, who made his debut as the screenplay and dialogue writer with Yash Chopra's KABHI KABHIE (1976), Sahir Ludhianvi was annoyed over Yash Chopra for giving him credits on the film poster.
Readers may note in those days except Salim-Javed no writer was given credit on film posters.
In an interview, Sagar Sarhadi revealed that he was overwhelmed to find his name in bold letters on the poster of KABHI KABHIE. Hence, to express his gratitude to Yash Chopra he went to Yash Chopra's office and was left dumbfounded to hear a heated exchange between Yash Chopra and Sahir over his name.
He recalls, “What I heard was shocking because Sahir Sahab was protesting against my name on the film poster claiming I was just a new comer hence it was worthless to highlight me.”
“However to my surprise Yash ji was adamant and argued that since the script is marvelous it deserves credit,” he added.
Yash Chopra was eventually right as the movie fetched Sagar Sarhadi the ‘Best Screenplay' award for KABHI KABHIE.
After KABHI KABHIE the Yash Chopra and Sagar Sarhadi Jodi worked together in many movies like DOOSRA AADMI, CHANDNI, SILSILA etc.
