Ali Fazal has worked in some diverse genre films like 3 IDIOTS, ALWAYS KABHI KABHI, FUKREY, BOBBY JASOOS, FUKREY, KHAMOSHIYAN and many others. And now the charming actor is set to try an altogether different thing, as he will be seen in the upcoming web series film BANG BAAJA BAARAAT, made under YRF's alternate arm Y-films banner. The series will be out on November 4.
While BANG BAAJA BAARAAT is presented as web series film, it has been shot like any other feature film. And even the promotions of this film will be treated like that. Ali makes it clear, “Yes it's a web film but the premiere of it will be held in the theatres. The film is premiering at MAMI film festival and we will have lot of private screenings also. While promoting BANG BAAJA BAARAAT, it will be treated like any other feature film. We shot it as good as any other film and not like any series. But it's been broken into 4-5 parts and will be shown that way, since web has a very short time span and people will not sit back for two hours watching the film.”
Ask Ali's take on the concept of web series film and he opines, “It's very cool. A lot of our audiences are now taking to the web. Of course cinema has its own charm and it will never go away. This was one time thing and I am very glad, proud that I did it because I got associated with a banner like Yash Raj. I am also a non YRF talent. The benefit of web film is that it is taken over everywhere. People are watching movies online. It releases all over the world in one day, so the entire audience has access to it.”
While taking about web series film, Ali also praises how filmmakers like Sujoy Ghosh (who made short film AHALYA that went viral), Tigmasnhu Dhulia (who is currently making a short film) are trying something new. “It's the in thing but not the final thing. But you get great sponsorship online, you sell films online. Audiences have short memory and attention span these days. Also if you want to give them a quick take on the story but you don't want to worry about the release and the distribution, then it's the best way to present your idea and work. Sujoy da has done a great job with AHALYA. And now I am looking forward to BANG BAAJA BAARAAT,” says Ali.
Though filmmakers are getting experimental, a section of audience still loves the aura of celluloid films. “Of course and that will never die. That should not even die also. I am too against the fact that cinema's charm should/can fade. In fact, cinema is my first passion. So, alongside I am also shooting for two of my big films (HAPPY BHAAG JAYEGI and LOVE AFFAIR). Having said that, it's (the web series) just a new avenue which we shouldn't shy away from exploring, as it's a great platform. It's not lessening the audience. On the contrary, it's about gaining more viewers abroad. And the idea is to reach out to all the distances possible. The kind of work we are doing is great,” Ali signs off.
