SHRUTI PATHAK
SHRUTI PATHAK

It's been two years since you launched ‘Guzzler', tell us about your journey?

These two years with ‘Guzzler' has been incredible. From launch concert, hard rock cafe tour, festivals, award functions, corporate tours to radio, ‘Guzzler' saw it all with so much love from the audience.

What made you present Ghazals in different format?
I grew up listening to different kinds of music, one of them being ghazals. Its strong poetry content was so fascinating and it always inspired me. In 2013, I formed ‘Guzzler' to revisit ghazals with new-age approach to reach out to the younger generation too, along with the ghazal aficionados.

Why only Ghazals and not other songs?
I have been singing for films already for so many years. I have worked with such brilliant composers like Salim Sulaiman, Vishal-Shekhar, Amit Trivedi, Jeet Ganguli, Himesh Reshammiya, Pritam da. There was a time I did something individually too  and as I said, I grew up with ghazals playing at home, it really was the first thing that came to my mind when I thought of the project I wanted to come up with.

Who inspired you for ‘Guzzler'?
In the beginning of 2013 my song ‘Shubhaarambh' from KAI PO CHE released and the same month I also released my first ever single. Thereon I had promised myself I would also focus on non-film music along with my playback singing as it made me spend most time with music.

What about your other Bollywood songs? Which is the latest song you have sung and tell us about your upcoming projects?
Bollywood is going great guns too! God's just very kind it seems. A couple of really lovely songs are coming up. I will come back soon to talk about them.

Do you plan to compose music?
I love composing and I do create tunes at times for my singles. But still a long way to go with it. Right now my focus is films and guzzler.

You also started your own channel on a video sharing platform for Guzzler. Is it the same format you had on radio?
Yes, it's called ‘Guzzler café', it's a series, a chat show where I have some crazy, talented musicians, singers and writers coming on my show talking about their love for ghazals and giving my listeners an acoustic performance and a visual treat. It's a bit different from the radio format. This has a very interesting visual twist and also has me performing some of my favourite ghazals and nazms, so a single every fortnight. I hope audiences like this surprise!!!

Which all celebs do you plan to get on your show?
The first episode was with Richa Sharma... many more coming up soon with awesomeness of Harshdeep Kaur, Talat Aziz, Anusha Mani, Sangeet and Siddharth Haldipur, Kavita Seth, etc....
