Filmmaker Rahul Rawail, who was a part of the selection jury along with others, chose COURT as India's official entry for Oscars yesterday, reportedly resigned from his post citing differences with Chairperson Amol Palekar and called him ‘manipulative'.

Though everyone initially presumed Rahul is unhappy with COURT being selected for Oscars, he took to a micro-blogging site to clarify his part. He said he isn't against Marathi film COURT being chosen for Oscars but what upset him was Amol Palekar's ‘obnoxious behaviour'. “Jst wanna clarify tht am proud of Court n fully support its selection I resigned from th Oscar jury bcoz of Mr Palekars obnoxious behaviour,” Rahul Rawail wrote.

When we contacted Rahul to know what really transpired him to quit from the jury, he remained unavailable.

However, as we approached Amol, he responded saying, “There were two members who resigned – Sukanya from South right from the first day for technical reasons. Then Rahul followed. All of us had signed an undertaking of maintaining the secrecy and confidentiality with FFI (Film Federation of India). One of the clauses in the contract said that we would not reveal anything about the selectin process. And I would not like to breach that. So, I choose not to reply on his allegations and would just say that it's unfortunate. In my career of more than 45 years in the show business, such adjectives have not been used for me. So, today even that has been completed. (Smiles). My career is now complete with these adjectives. I wouldn't like my dignity and grace to be sacrificed if somebody else is saying something. Our job is now over and the real process of lobbing and marketing begins. None of us from the jury have any role in that.”

On a parting note, Amol wished that COURT succeeds in cracking the elusive Oscar ceiling, “I sincerely hope that our choice of COURT makes that final dent and cracks that elusive Oscar ceiling.”
