Looks like filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar is quite fond of actor Arjun Rampal. While Madhur is never seen to be repeating his cast (even his leading ladies), surprisingly he was keen to work with Arjun again. Arjun was part of Madhur's last film HEROINE that also starred Kareena Kapoor Khan.

A source close to Madhur Bhandarkar revealed that the director was initially planning to cast Arjun Rampal in his upcoming film CALENDAR GIRLS. While in the film HEROINE, Arjun essayed the role of a superstar, Madhur wanted Arjun to play a high-profile photographer in CALENDAR GIRLS.
In fact, he had Arjun in mind while working on the script as well. He even approached the actor, but it is being said that Arjun had some prior commitments and had to turn down the offer. According to the source, “Yes, Madhur was extremely keen on casting Arjun in Calendar Girls. He even sent across the script to Arjun. But since the dates did not match, Madhur decided to cast Rohit Roy instead.”
However, we believe the actor must have turned down the offer for reasons other than dates. And why we say so? Well, when HEROINE was being made reports were rife that Arjun is rather miffed with Madhur with the way his character shaped up in HEROINE. As HEROINE was out-n-out a Kareena Kapoor film, so Arjun didn't have much scope to perform. Possibly, Arjun must have given it a miss considering that he might not have that much to do as CALENDAR GIRLS is again a women-centric subject.
Well, whatever the reason is, we believe there was no harm for Arjun to take up the project.
