From being one of the top models to making his acting debut in Bollywood with LOVE GAMES, Gaurav Arora has surely taken a really big and bold step, but the actor isn't really afraid of that. Reading our interview you would know why do we say that.
Here are the excerpts:
Were you okay with the bold scenes?
Yeah. My character is real. There are people like these. In fact, Facebook has a swingers club. And this isn't just in elite places - it's happening everywhere and within every class. In fact, I had seen a show on TV where a lady who married a naval officer said that swinging wives is a common practice. She divorced because she couldn't take it. This is a very relevant film because everything we portray on screen is happening. Coming to Tara, she has been going through domestic violence for 10 years, but people around would ask the lady to make it work. One day when she says that I'm done with him and want to have sex with a new guy in life, that is what we'll find wrong. You might call the movie bold. When JISM and MURDER came long back, people used to question it. But then those went on to become cult films. So yes, LOVE GAMES is that film again, which is taken to another level. You also have 7 English songs in the film, which is also the USP. It is written by Vikram sir.
But then there's also threesome...
Yeah. When you go on these swingers sites, people have given their preferences on what they want.
John Abraham in a recent interview said that he felt bad because he did a bold film like JISM and thus switched to a different genre. Do you have something similar in mind?
The great thing here is that on the 4th day of LOVE GAMES, I was offered RAAZ REBOOTED. It's a great thing for any new actor. It usually takes a year to year and a half for any actor to come out with another film, but I have it in a much lesser time. The character there is 360 reversal. Here I'm a spoilt brat partying and sex addict, while in RAAZ, the guy doesn't speak much. He's a very intense guy who talks with his eyes. For me, as an actor, I'm showcasing 2 different things within 3 months which is really good. I don't think there's anything wrong here though, because it's what's happening. Many a times, people don't even notice a newcomers movie, but we already got 2 million views.
"JISM and MURDER were questioned, but became cult films"
What's after RAAZ 4?
I have a three film deal with them. So after this year, there's a script that they're working on which will probably start. I'm currently waiting for these films to come out and break the norm of "models can't act."
Do you think a lot of responsibility has come up on your shoulder with being a model?
No. I actually made a genuine effort to not look like a model in LOVE GAMES. I didn't do too much styling. So I hope people like my acting in it.
Do you think it's your ideal debut?
Of course. Like I told you, the graph of the film as an actor is so varied. He's going through so many emotions. It's not a film where I'm dancing or showing my 6 packs. It shows my acting ability.
Any one compliment that stayed with you?
This one guy was my model friend. He told me that when he sees me come on TV, it gives him hope that if a friend and model colleague can do it, then even he can do it.
When Emraan Hashmi started he got tagged as the serial kisser. You also started with a bold film. So are you scared that you'll also be tagged?
I'm not actually looking for tags but a lot of people (even from the media) have called me and said that the kiss in our movie doesn't look mechanical. First day when Patralekhaa and I had an intimate scene, we both were scared about how to do it right. I was hoping that I don't do something which would make her feel uncomfortable. It wasn't just a romantic kiss, but an intimate scene. We were trying to talk and work it out. When we told Vikram sir, he asked us why were we getting worried and to treat it like a dialogue. So we did the scene and that kiss actually broke the ice between Patralekhaa and me. We kissed twice and are still good friends. It was nice.
